Every system gives something away.

Your browser did too, a moment ago. I study what systems reveal, in data and in networks, and how to protect them.

    Work

Three things I built in 2026, from data analysis to network security.

The winter that broke the forecast

    Data analysis, October 2026

A monthly forecast of electricity use in Espinho from open E-Redes data, tested month by month without looking ahead: it misses by 2.5% on average. Then I investigated a winter jump of up to 10.5%. The cold explains between 11% and 43% of it, depending on the method.

    netlab

    Network security, October 2026

A network traffic analyser in Python that reads captures of real malware infections and reports who talked to whom, which domains were contacted, and signs of attacks. Tested on two real captures: an infected office computer, and a week of attacks on a public web server.

Illustration: what one detector looks for

A person browsing: irregular connections Malware beaconing: the same interval, again and again
Illustration: connections over time. Normal browsing is irregular; beaconing repeats at a fixed interval.

In a real capture, it caught a remote-access trojan contacting its server 261 times, almost exactly every 60.1 seconds.
